Day 1 (sept 23)
We will drive to Erie, PA on our way to New England. We will travel through 4 of the 6 states that make up New England on this trip.
DAY 2 (sept 24)
We will be driving the scenic back roads of the New York State Finger Lakes Region renowned for over 80 vineyards dotting the landscape. Overnight in the quaint victorian town of Saratoga Springs, NY.
DAY 3 (sept 25)
Our route will take us along beautiful Lake George in the Adirondack Mountains. The first stop in Vermont will be at the Shelburne Museum. Then it is on to the Vermont Teddy Bear Factory for a guided tour.
DAY 4 (sept 26)
This morning we will take a gondola trip to the summit of Mt. Mansfield, Vermont’s highest peak. Lunch will be at the Von Trapp Lodge established by Maria Von Trapp of “Sound of Music” fame. Following lunch we are in for a treat with a guided “History Tour of the Family” as told by a family member. We will then visit Morse Maple Farm to learn how spring sap is transformed into “Vermont Maple Syrup”.
DAY 5 (sept 27)
This morning we are on our way to New Hampshire. We will drive through quaint villages on our way to our first stop, Franconia Notch and Cannon Mountain. We will board a 30 passenger tram for a swift trip to the summit and a spectacular view of three New England states on a clear day. We will then journey over the famous Kancamagus Highway which traverses the most scenic and photographed regions in the state. We will stay at the North Conway Grand Hotel for the next two evenings.
Day 6 (sept 28)
Today we will have a guided tour of the Canterbury Shaker Village which was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1993. This village is the most intact and authentic surviving 19th century Shaker community site. We will spend the afternoon cruising across beautiful Lake Winnipesaukee. Before returning to our hotel we will visit the fascinating Wright Museum that features home life during WWII.
Day 7 (Sept 29)
This morning we make our way to the “Pine Tree State” of Maine. We will visit the iconic Portland Head Lighthouse that was commissioned by George Washington. We will continue our scenic coastal drive to the seaside town of Kennebunkport. The day will close with a traditional Maine Lobster Bake.
Day 8 (sept 30)
Today on our last day in New England we will drive through scenic Central Massachusetts to the darling town of Stockbridge located in the heart of the Berkshire Mountains. World renowned illustrator, Norman Rockwell, raised his family and created his famous covers for the Saturday Evening Post in Stockbridge. We will have a chance to visit the Norman Rockwell Museum.
day 9 (oct 1)
Following breakfast we will begin our journey home with fond memories of time spent in beautiful and historic New England.
