Trip Itinerary

Our first stop will be a guided tour and tram ride at Castle Farms. Castle Farms was built in 1918 by Albert Loeb, the acting President of Sears, Roebuck, and Co., as a model dairy farm. Loeb Farms was modeled after the stone barns and castles found in Normandy. Today Castle Farms is one of the most beautiful northern Michigan attractions/venues with magnificent gardens and the largest outdoor model railroad in the State of Michigan.

Lunch will be at the Stafford’s Weathervane Restaurant in Charlevoix. This restaurant is located in a renovated grist mill with views of the busy Charlevoix drawbridge and boats. Charlevoix realtor Earl Young acquired the mill and turned it into a restaurant. Young put his stamp on the exterior of the mill as well as the interior with the glacial boulder fireplace in the main dining room and using shipwreck planks in the decor. The Weathervane became a Stafford’s property in 1988.

Following lunch we will have a step on guided tour of “Charlevoix the Beautiful” with a Historical Society guide. We will travel throughout the city, past the renowned Earl Young “Mushroom Houses”, past the stunning Victorian summer resorts, across the famous drawbridge, and into the heart of the bustling community.

Once our tour is completed we will have a little time to explore Charlevoix’s quaint shops on our own.

Next, we are off to the Bier Art Gallery before we head for home. The Bier Art Gallery is located in a turn of the century red and white schoolhouse with views of Lake Michigan and the local countryside.
